The Final Table

The Final Table at the Februaray 8, 2009 Tournament

February 8, 2009 — El Cerrito/Bayview 2323 — Sires/Arabellas Unit #8 of the Fraternal Order of Eagles held a members only No Limit Texas Hold-em Tournament to raise money for their Main Charity — The Blind Babies Foundation of Oakland CA. The fundraiser, chaired by California State Outside Guard Steve Smith (Bayview #2323) & PMP Gwen Lange (San Pablo #3028) raised a total of $620.00 that was divided up as $310.00 to the Blind Babies Foundation and $310.00 to the top three winners.

There were a total of 15 players and the first hands were dealt at 3:00 PM. Each player bought in for $20.00 and could rebuy if they lost all of their chips in the first hour. The $20.00 buy-in got the players $250.00 worth of tournament chips and the fianl rebuy after the first hour $20.00 got you an additional $500.00 in tournament chips.

As players were eliminated one by one or two by one, the two tables dwindled down to one final table of eight players. At approximatly 5:00 PM the Fianl three players were left. The were Bill Eason (Bayview #2323), Mark Ferreira (Bayview #2323) and Kay Hackett (San Jose #8).

Chip amounts were chainging hands back and forth for the next few minutes when finally Kay Hackett beat Mark Ferrira’s all in bet. That left two and it was a long drawn out battle for to get to the fianl hand. Just as the blinds were getting ready to be raised again, Kay went all in on a 7H-KC and was called by Bill Eason’s QH-AD. This was it. The flop was 4D-9D-QS. This gave Bill a pair of Queens and a good chance of winning. On Fourth Street a 3H appearead. Now Kay was down to any king to win the pot. But it was not to be, the River was AD and the tournament was over.

The winners wer paid out as follows:

  • 3rd Place — Mark Ferreira — Bayview #2323 — $62.00
  • 2nd Place — Kay Hackett — San Jose #8 — $93.00
  • 1st Place — Bill Eason — Bayview #2323 — #155.00

The real winner was the Blind Babies Foundation with $310.00 raise and an additional $60.00 donated. More pictures can be found at the District 3 Website Photo Gallery.
